Laura Reid is a composer whose work fuses vocal, instrumental, electronic, and field-recorded sound. Her music has been broadcast on BBC radio, performed internationally, and is available via the British Music Collection.

Her work spans opera, installation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Commissions include the pop-up opera Detritus for the Royal Opera House’s Lost and Found (2022), created with librettist Oge Nwosu, and a variation for Fenella Humphreys’ Caprices (Rubicon Classics, 2022).

Laura frequently collaborates across artforms, including with AV artists The Light Surgeons at IKLECTIK, COMA Festival, and through the development of echoes.xyz audio trails and sound walks for the National Trust at Studland, Purbeck Heath, and Swanage Pier. She has also worked with tabla player Kuljit Bhamra, composing new work using his notation system.

She has undertaken residencies including the Halldorophone (cello and electronics) residency at SMC Studios, Stockholm, and the Wild Plum residency in Aldeburgh, and participated in the Bozzini Composer’s Lab at Dartington Summer School, writing for Quatuor Bozzini.

Supported by a PRS Composers’ Award, she developed a song cycle for Gweneth Ann Rand and Allyson Devenish; Songs of Hope premiered at Tête à Tête (2023) and as a sound trail at Inside Out Festival (2023), with further presentation at the F-List Conference (Leeds, 2026).

Her work has been presented at festivals including Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival, WOMAD, Celtic Connections, NIME, Sound and Music Computing (SMC), Inside Out, and Glastonbury. She previously received Arts Council DYCP funding to expand her practice with technology, leading to Celestial Bodies for Dorset Moon, created for silent disco headsets.

  1. I particularly like your more ‘classical’ pieces Meta and Crossing, if you could get these onto a CD I would certainly buy them. NMC put Howard Skempton’s Lento onto a CD, and this is only 12’57 long: why not your pieces?
